Jacqueline Kennedy’s Coats for Kids<\/a> is a nonprofit organization inspired by a normal drive to school on a cold day. Jacqueline Kennedy saw a child walking without a coat, and she wanted to offer her coat to that child. The organization has now collected and distributed more than 2,000 coats to kids in need in Texas, Michigan, Maryland, and Illinois.<\/p>\n

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 7.3 million families in the United States live in poverty. That’s 22 percent of all U.S. households. Poverty is linked to poor health, lower educational attainment, and shorter lifespans. And poverty can have a devastating impact on children. A warm winter coat is usually a luxury for families living in poverty.<\/p>\n

Jacqueline Kennedy’s Coats for Kids is trying to make a difference for kids living in poverty by ensuring they have warm coats to wear during the winter months. The organization accepts donations of new and gently used coats and distributes them to kids in need.<\/p>\n

The nonprofit also hosts various events throughout the year, such as participating in the national Movies Day Out event, Trampoline Park Day, and Day at the Zoo for Kids for children living in local shelters and transitional homes.
