Filip Elgers has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to help him execute adjustments to his self-built domestic loom, which will enable domestic weavers to produce terry cloth and other fabrics.<\/div>\n

Filip Elgers<\/strong> has already built a domestic loom<\/strong> himself that is reminiscent of the looms used for hundreds of years in homes all over the world to produce fabrics and textiles.  Now, Mr. Elgers wants to make adjustments to this loom so that his model can easily produce some of the more difficult-to-weave fabrics such as terry cloth.  In order to raise funds for the necessary adjustments to his loom, he has launched a Kickstarter campaign.<\/p>\n

According to Mr. Elgers, “It is very common for large, advanced machinery to be used in today’s weaving industry.  However, before the Industrial Revolution<\/strong>, many people still wove at home on wooden looms<\/a>.  Even today, many people rely on wooden looms to produce fabric that they use or sell.  There has been no evolution whatsoever in the design of the home loom in more than 200 years.  Home weavers are still working on the same looms that were used in the 18th<\/sup> century.”<\/p>\n

Mr. Elgers has created a prototype of his loom in wood which he hopes to convert to an aluminum KNEX-like device<\/a>.  This means that anyone will be able to set it up with the help of a manual.  His overall intention is to have an automated loom that is as cheap and readily available as possible to assist those who rely on weaving to make a living.<\/p>\n
