"Unearthing

Children’s worlds are hardly all about fun and games. Children across the world deal with lots of indifference and material deprivation. Despite the great pain many children experience, they still harbor hopes in their hearts. The book, Stories from the Arroyos, written by Kathryn Carpenter is a depiction of that reality, poignant and grim but full of insights.

Carpenter’s book gives readers an opportunity, to descend into the head and heart of children and to learn from their priceless wisdom. The twenty short stories will win over the reader with solid storylines and compelling premises that ensured a reader of instant connection.

The life in the coal camps is a mix of underlying tension, bleak future and uncertainty in every turn. It is a rough spot for physically demanding, debilitating and often deadly. But the families continue to live knowing that tragedy may come every day.

The book earned a good and positive review from Kirkus, Stories from the Arroyos is now available for purchase at Amazon.

About the Author

""

Kathryn Carpenter has always like writing, but her life is not that of a writer. She was an elementary teacher, pastoral minister, and now a nurse. Presently, Katherine is teaching nursing at Trinidad State College in Southeastern Colorado and she does staff nursing at the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg. Because of her love of mountains, Katherine relocated to Wisconsin. She then found great interest in the coal mines within the area, this inspired her to write this story.
