NEXT DOOR SPY<\/em> follows ten-year old Agathe-Christine, who dreams about mystery from her new family’s basement, where she’s established a little detective bureau. But while solving the first mystery, she soon finds herself involved in a much more complicated case, bigger than she ever imagined.<\/p>\n

Visually unique, NEXT DOOR SPY<\/em> uses “cut-out” animation, which looks hand drawn on the computer. There are 39 characters drawn for the movie and each character consists of more than 600 layers. “Vibrant hues capture the emotional strength of each scene. Of special note are the noir scenes Agatha imagines herself in, which feel reminiscent of old ’50s films,” wrote CBR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The movie’s mystery plot is an opportunity for writer-director Kara von Bengston to touch on issues kids often encounter, like moving to a new town, exasperating sibling relationships, and asserting one’s specialness.<\/p>\n
