The American Heart Association—creators of the national standard for CPR guidelines—just released their newest set of 2020 guidelines on Wednesday, October 21. In response, the <\/span>American Health Care Academy<\/span><\/a> recently modified its CPR\/AED course in order to ensure that everyone pursuing certification could have access to the quality information they need. <\/span><\/p>\n

The AHA typically releases new guidelines every five years. The changes embodied by these guidelines vary, ranging from the introduction of new CPR mechanisms to practices designed to address new issues. When compared to previous CPR guidelines, the changes exhibited in the most recent round of updates are notable.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the <\/span>AHA explained<\/span><\/a> in a recent press release, the “updated CPR guidelines tackle health disparities, management of opioid-related emergencies and physical, emotional recovery.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal of these guidelines is to increase the probability of survival among individuals experiencing cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. With input from industry experts, it became clear that structural inequalities, the growing threat of opioid use, and lack of further care, were among three of the most common reasons CPR and AED usage can, ultimately, be ineffective.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, the American Health Care Academy’s <\/span>CPR AED course<\/span><\/a> helps thousands of people obtain CPR certification every year. Both medical professionals and non-medical professionals can complete this online course in a matter of 1 to 3 hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

The course is structured to address every aspect of performing CPR and incorporating additional guidelines will help make the course itself even more effective.
