Associates Home Loan<\/a> is pleased to announce the winner of its 2020 scholarship. The scholarship awards $1,000 to a deserving individual who has been accepted to or is attending a college or university in the United States.<\/p>\n

This year, the scholarship was awarded to a high school senior, Eber Guzman Cruz. Cruz will be attending Towson University in the fall of 2020, where he will be a freshman. He is considering a double major with Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics.<\/p>\n

The sponsor believes in the importance of education. The sponsor wants to help students access higher education so that they will be productive members of society.<\/p>\n

Another goal of the scholarship is to build awareness among young people about financial options that are available to self-employed workers, including alternative credit options and self-employed loans.<\/p>\n

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must write a 500-word essay following the prompt “What is your dream career?” The essay gives students the ability to explore their interests and make plans for their future studies and career opportunities.<\/p>\n

Eber Guzman Cruz writes “Ten years from now, I will be working in the medical field as an orthopedic, trauma or general surgeon. For me, this has been a dream I’ve had all my life. I love helping people in any way possible, it’s something I’m passionate about.”<\/p>\n

Cruz continues, “I plan to start this journey after high school and never stop until I am successful. I come from a family that has nothing, and I value everything I have and everything I have ever received.”<\/p>\n

He relates his passion for medicine and the ways in which he wants to help his future patients. “When a person has a concern or pain they come to a doctor, it’s my dream to one day be that person on the other side of that conversation, as their doctor.”<\/p>\n
