The National framework for malaria elimination in India 2016-2030 encourages all the states of India with different levels of malaria transmission to accelerate efforts towards malaria elimination and lays down specific milestones and targets to achieve the same. According to the recent report of World Health Organization (WHO), one in seven Indians are at risk of the disease and all states are required to contribute towards eliminating transmission of the vector-borne disease.  <\/p>\n

In Uttarakhand there are 13 districts, of which 4 Districts Haridwar, Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar & Nainital are in plains and the rest of the nine districts are at high altitude. Malaria is prevalent only in plain districts. under Malaria Control Programme every year the month of June is observed as Anti Malaria month and intensification of IEC and inters-sectoral collaborative efforts with other Government Departments is done for drawing up action plan before the onset of transmission season. The objective of the Uttarakhand Government is to reduce malaria mortality by 70% and efficient morbidity control.  <\/p>\n

Madhukar Sanneerappa said that Malaria is more prevalent in north-eastern region of country and increasing in Uttarakhand state too. The state has nearly 70% of the population resides near water body regions. As a result, malaria is increasing in these areas.
