Dual Immersion Program Reaches 20 Year Milestone<\/div>\n

Nestor Language Academy Charter School celebrated 20 Years of Excellence of their Dual Immersion Program this past school year. This county’s oldest two-way immersion experience has been recognized as a model program for successfully teaching a second language.<\/p>\n

Students spend their youngest years at the school receiving most of their instruction in Spanish, including math, reading, writing, music, and even the cafeteria menu for the day. Because of this, native Spanish speakers learn the formal basics of their native language and are able to strengthen writing, speaking, and reading abilities. The English speaking students also have an enriching opportunity to speak conversationally and immerse themselves in the Spanish language by learning alongside the native Spanish speaking students. By the 5th grade, students reach bilingual status and English instruction is 50 percent of the typical school day.    <\/p>\n
