HER STORY CHANGED THE GAME FOR FEMALE JOURNALISTS

Los Angeles, CA – March 22, 2017 – TriCoast Entertainment and Broad Green Pictures announce the DVD release of 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE, The true account of turn-of-the-century investigative journalist Nelly Bly. At just 23 years old, Bly shook the world when she feigned insanity and went undercover in the notorious Blackwell’s Island Woman’s Insane Asylum in New York City to expose corruption, abuse and murder. Her investigation and subsequent feature led to the successful shutdown of Blackwell’s Asylum and she became the first woman in history to write a serious investigative front page news story. Nellie Bly is recognized as one of the most important journalists in history. The DVD will be available in stores and online beginning March 21.

Closely adapted from Nelly’s own book “10 Days in a Madhouse,” the story is her experience of the 10 grueling and horrifying days in the institution under deplorable conditions as basis for an explosive exposé she wrote for Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World Newspaper. 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE is written and directed by Timothy Hines (War of the Worlds; The True Story), and stars Caroline Barry as Nellie Bly, who brings Bly’s heroism and courage to life on screen. The film also stars Christopher Lambert (Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan; Highlander) and Kelly Le Brock (Weird Science, The Woman in Red). Director Timothy Hines offers, “It is exciting that 10 Days in a Madhouse is being released on DVD. Our team at TriCoast, led by Strath Hamilton and Marcy Hamilton, outdid themselves in bringing in Broad Green Pictures as a partner. A whole new audience will open up to the power that a single person has in seeing Nellie Bly’s story.”

After a sold out US premiere at the esteemed Bentonville Film Festival, Geena Davis’ festival celebrating women and diversity, 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE went on to have a successful international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and a solid theatrical run in the U.S. “We opened in one of the toughest markets out there opposite some very worthy films, and did well with a measured release, holding in US theaters for 19 weeks,” said Hines.
