German Fashiontech StartUp develops smart Athletic Wear with 10+ Features

Dominic Hammann from Germany’s city of Essen has a vision. The 33-year-old wants to revolutionize the world of sportswear – with fashion that is thought out down to the last fibre and thus enables unrestricted focus.

Portance is the name of the new label that combines style and functionality in sports fashion. For example, the training pants have a sewn-in towel holder and a well thought-out media pocket, while the sleeve of the jumper has a zip for the gym card.

Another detail of the clothing may be invisible, but it has a far-reaching effect: “When wearing our sports fashion, no one has to worry about unpleasant sweat odor anymore,” says Dominic, founder of Portance. This is because all textiles are treated with FuzeTM Biotech – an innovative, patented and chemical-free anti-odor treatment.

Due to real silver and gold particles, this protective layer eliminates invisible germs on the textiles and is said to ensure improved moisture transport and fast drying. An effect that is not lost even after the wash cycle. “With these properties, we

create psychological relief for athletes,” explains the founder.

This is not only true in times of pandemic: with the sportswear, hygienic training is made possible – and precisely where an increased concentration of bacteria and fungi can be found: “On a dumbbell alone, there are 48 times as many bacteria as on a toilet seat.”

With Portance, the focus should be solely on sport, without compromise. This is exactly why the choice of materials has been well thought out: away from fast fashion off the peg, produced cheaply for the mass market, towards more sustainability and endurance in the gym or when jogging.

Portance therefore combines all facets of a fair and sustainable fashion item. “Our sports trousers and hoodies are partly made of recycled polyester from old PET bottles,” says the founder. All products also have GOTS certification, one of the highest sustainability standards for fashion.

“I want to get people to make responsible buying decisions,” explains Dominic, who has his fashion produced exclusively in Europe. From family businesses where many a seamstress has been employed for 30 years.

The brand launched a global crowdfunding campaign on 24 May 2022 via Kickstarter. You can find out more on Kickstarter, the website (www.portance.de) or on Instagram (@portance.de).
