13 finalists compete in EF China Conversation Talk

The national final of EF China Talk takes place in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang province on Aug 30.

The national final of EF China Talk, an English speaking competition for adults, was held by Swedish education company EF Education in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on Aug 30.

Thirteen winners of regional finals in 20 cities competed in the event, showcasing their extraordinary English-speaking abilities with two-minute-long talent shows and lectures on Chinese culture.

Kyle from Shenzhen dresses as Zhuge Liang, a famous military strategist during the legendary Three Kingdoms period (220-280), and relates classic Three Kingdoms stories in English. Zhuge Liang, courtesy name Kongming, was a Chinese politician, military strategist, writer, engineer and inventor. He served as the chancellor and regent of the state of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period.

Daisy from Hangzhou started her lecture with stories from Louis Cha’s The Legend of the Condor Heroes; Kyle from Shenzhen related classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms stories in his unique style; and Aaron from Wuxi played multiple different roles in his talent show, which explored China’s changes since reform and opening-up.

Swedish education company EF Education is among the most popular tutors for Chinese students. The company has been selected as the exclusive language training unit for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

EF China Talk China Hangzhou is the third time the adult national English speaking competition has been held, with the 2018 edition being held in Nanjing and the 2019 edition in Shenzhen.
