August 28, 2017 – Michael Moretti (Magic Mike) of Las Vegas, NV was named World Champion of Bar Magic according to The Magic World Championships international organization based in New York, NY. The competition was held August 13-16 in Las Vegas and ran concurrently with MagicLive, the world’s most prestigious magic convention.
Bar and Restaurant magicians from more than 7 countries competed for the 2017-2018 title displaying incredible close-up magic that is designed to deal with the specific challenges of doing world-class magic exclusively in these types of public venues.
Event organizer Debra Langell said “Michael Moretti displayed an amazing ability to completely amaze his audience while maintaining an easy going, entertaining, fun style. We are proud to have him as our Bar Magic World Champion.” Michael Moretti (known simply by his fans as “Magic Mike”) added “most people don’t realize the preparation it takes to put on a good close-up magic show in a bar environment. It’s not “willy nilly” at all, it needs to be a well thought-out performance that not only has strong magic, but also takes into account all of the potential pitfalls of working so close to people who may be eating and drinking while they watch.”
Bar and Restaurant magic is unique because of the special set of circumstances that magicians need to deal with, including glasses and dishes on the bar, table or performance area, difficult angles, timing of food orders and of course the potential for your audience to be a bit more interesting due to the intake of alcohol.
Since the competition Magic Mike Moretti has been approached by several Las Vegas Strip and downtown casinos along with a number of bars and restaurants with a variety of proposals for his unique brand of magic but for now he says he is content where he is.
