Vane pumps are less noisy when used for comparatively high speed. Industries use vane pump in injection moulding, die casting machines, and road & land construction machineries. Pulsation flow rate is constant, i.e. quiet low in the operation of the hydraulic vane pumps. The main qualities of vane pumps include low flow pulsation, very low noise level, wide speed range, and wide range of viscosity.

Variable Displacement Vane Pump volume type is only of single chamber type vane pump. An adjustment screw is used by moving the stroke ring (stator) to assume the displacement chambers size. The outflow of the pump is zero when rotors entire axis is positioned in the middle of the stator.
Three positioning devices can be utilized. They are horizontal adjustment screw to control the volume of the stroke by the space between rotor and stator of the pump. Height adjustment screws change the vertical position of the stator directly affecting noise and dynamic response of the pump. And the third one is by setting screw to operate in maximum pressure with amount of spring pre-tension determining the pressure.
A screw of the pump is adjusted mechanically to directly control the flow of the pump. It can also be controlled by control of electrical and hydraulic combination. Normally the operating vane pump pressure does not go over 175bar. Nevertheless, some vane pumps are specifically designed to operate on higher bar, i.e. operating pressure 200 to up to 300 bars. Double chamber vane pumps are available in hydraulic vane pumps.
