Ogden, Utah – Actor and filmmaker Cal Nguyen volunteered his time to help a small group teen Girl Scouts from the Ogden Council who wanted to learn filmmaking skills at Saint James the Just Catholic Church.
Nguyen is the writer, director, and producer for the award-winning television series Day Zero, which is filmed in Utah and streams on Amazon Prime. It is currently in season three, staring Shawn Stevens (Love Everlasting, Days of Our Lives).
“This isn’t an official function of the group, and not an endorsement of any kind, simply me coaching teen girls about filmmaking, as a favor to fellow parishioners of mine at my parish. I am not a teacher, just a filmmaker and actor who volunteered, and I highly encourage other filmmakers to also provide and donate their time for charitable reasons,” explained Nguyen of his time with the group of Girl Scouts.
Day Zero takes place when the Earth has been mostly destroyed as a result of World War IV, which is regarded as “Day Zero.” Radiation and fallout from the global attacks affected most of those who survived, regressing them into a primitive-like state. Pockets of the unaffected are scattered across North America, with some hoping to rebuild while others take advantage of what’s left.
The show is a product of the Altare Productions studio. “We use our studio for Day Zero, but also as a place to support the making of uplifting entertainment, music videos, commercials, documentaries, interviews, and other worthwhile programing,” said Nguyen.
Nguyen is a U.S. Air Force veteran. He has been a filmmaker since 2011, and an actor since 1999 working in Hollywood. His premiere hit TV series “Day Zero” has won over 80 film awards to include 6 Telly Awards. The show is currently available on Amazon Prime.
