Los Angeles, CA – May 18, 2018 – Reporting from Cannes, MTime News supports the past year’s massive box office break out of Chinese films and filmmakers in the Western world. Hollywood studios are beginning to cooperate with Chinese filmmakers as their films are making their way to each corner of the world, most specifically, from TriCoast Worldwide, an international sales agency headquartered in Culver City, CA, which includes film distribution business.
Marcy Levitas Hamilton, CEO of TriCoast Worldwide “said that in the future, more Chinese films will be shown throughout the world,” reported MTime News. She continued to tell the Times reporter, Martyn Palmer, “There are not many global distributions of Chinese films, so we are cooperating with a number of quality independent Chinese films to begin the first step on a global scale. We think this is a groundbreaking move and believe that audiences all over the world have missed the fascinating story of China – these stories are global in nature and can happen anywhere, not in politics, but in people’s stories…”

“This is the story of China that we are trying to spread. People will be connected with the places where the live. We are working with Chinese films so that they can be seen around the world. Some cooperation is about the language level, and some are based on story,” continued Hamilton.
Most recently, TriCoast Worldwide has brought Zheng Hua’s ‘EVERYDAY HERO’ abroad to screen at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. ‘EVERYDAY HERO’ is a biopic exploring and honoring the true, inspiring story of Brother Guo Jian Nan, the selfless individual who left his occupation as Heavy Industries Group’s supervisor to dedicate his life as the new captain of the Poverty Alleviation Program in the developing Chinese LiTan Village, Yang Xi. “The local people’s love for Guo Jian Nan. His experience reflects China’s achievements in reducing poverty by more than 13 million people each year. It has written the “greatest story” in the history of human struggle against poverty and won high praise from the international community,” wrote Sina News.
Produced / starring Sun Hong Tao, alongside Ru Ping and Ai Liya. Sina News stated that the film’s domestic adaptation “fully reflects the ‘precise poverty alleviation work’, the success of the film’s overseas distribution has important political and practical significance […] Industry insiders believe that the success of the film’s overseas distribution has provided an example for the overseas promotion of realistic film themes and main melody films.” Watch the trailer for ‘EVERYDAY HERO’ here: https://vimeo.com/267348540.
TriCoast Worldwide’s Chinese endeavor began three years ago, when Chinese director, Tan Bing took his action-packed ‘CHINA SALESMAN’, featuring Aikido sensation, Steven Seagal and former heavyweight champ, Mike Tyson. Aiming to share his film with the entire world, Bing invited TriCoast Worldwide to China for their Western perspectives and opinions.
“I had experience with editing in the past, so we stayed there for three weeks, negotiated with them, and tried to make the film interesting for the audiences around the world. It was a great experience. After they came back, they asked us to distribute the film worldwide,” said Hamilton. She added, “It was a great success. After selling copyrights in one country after another, we met other people in China. Everything has only just begun. We are very excited.”
TriCoast Worldwide will bring ‘EVERYDAY HERO’ to US audiences in 2018. Alongside TriCoast Worldwide’s representation and screening of ‘EVERYDAY HERO’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the international sales and distribution company also hosted the cocktail party, “Chinese Culture Club”, which “demonstrated their cooperation with Chinese partners,” wrote Palmer. Continuing forward on their exciting Chinese endeavor, TriCoast Worldwide will also represent Bing’s ‘THE FATAL CONTRACT’ starring Chinese-American actress, Bai Ling.
