THE PRICE OF FAME IN ‘MUSE’ – JOHN BURR’S EIGHT-TIME WINNING SUPERNATURAL HORROR

“MUSE // DARKCOAST”
Film Threat reviews John Burr’s eight-time winning fantasy horror ‘MUSE’ – now streaming online digital platforms.

Los Angeles, CA – September 6, 2018 “An original premise, eerie cinematography, and a parallel between mental illness and the little lies we tell ourselves to make it through each day that hints at the [film’s] philosophical ambitions,” wrote Film Threat… Watch ‘MUSE’ today if you dare: https://amzn.to/2LdXkdV.

From Writer-Director John Burr (Boots, The Last Kill), DarkCoast presents MUSE – a twisted, haunted fairytale that combines elements of a psychological thriller, the supernatural and past Irish legends and mythological influences.

Physically and artistically stuck inside a gritty DTLA loft is Adam (Riley Egan), a struggling and broke painter, who longs to create works that will inspire his future success as an artist. When his inspiration – his muse – takes form of a glimmering, mystical and deadly spirit creature, the Leannán Sí (Elle Evans), based upon the Gaelic legend of a mythical Celtic. Elle Evans conveys “human characteristics without a single line of dialogue. Her body language seems natural, and she effortlessly conveys the more supernatural aspects of her character.”

Silently beautiful, yet extremely mysterious, the Leannán Sí “unleashes Adam’s passions in an almost unnatural way” as his artistic inspiration and career success begins to flourish. When an art gallery owner, Valerie (Jennie Fahn), finally approaches him, Adam enters the competitive art world meeting Jason (Lou Ferringo Jr.), the top-of-the-art scene and cocky creator the town loves. “It is, however, Lou Ferringo Jr. as the rival artist that stands out.”

Acting as her human lover to protect and seduce, the Leannán Sí defends anyone who impedes on his artistic skill or their relationship by murdering them. “Adam is finally earning the adulation he has long sought, but there is a price to all the fame,” when the obsession turns into a violent nightmare. “The deadly lady, known as a Leannán Sí, be both real, giving the movie a dark fable bent, and a figment of Adam’s mind, a symptom of his uninspired artwork driving him mad.”

The eight-time winning fantasy horror MUSE questions: “What price is inspiration?” as Adam’s moral compass is ripped into two – first, scared of how far the Leannán Sí is willing to go to protect him – and second, if Adam can live with her actions to continue his successful career. Torn between his morality or his muse – his success and inspiration, what will Adam choose?
