Within the Center of Australia about 1500km’s from the nearest coast lays the town of Alice Springs. Every year in Alice Springs The Henley On Todd famous boat race takes place and I mean run. All the boats are bottomless and it is on a dry River Todd.
2017 is the 56th year the Henley On Todd has been fully organised and supported through the three local Rotary Clubs. With 56 years experience they know how to run the event with great success. The Henley on Todd is an event that brings the Alice alive each year.
Starting at the Todd Mall entrants parade through the streets heading down to the Todd River where the mad cap events are held.
There would be a lot of events, some of which are: Tug of War (Anchor the boat), Sand shoveling (newcomers race to fill a drum filled with sand), Sand skiing.
The boat races are the craziest and fun filled. Racing down the dry river bed the boating events include rowing 4 and 8’s, kayak, surf rescue. The boat races have teams and crews racing across the dry river, flint stone style in crazy home made bottomless boats.
The Fight in the finish is the greatest of all. The 3 rotary clubs have their custom boats on 4wd’s and enter a fight till there’s just one. They will use water cannons, flour bombs, the champion is the one that’s still mobile.
Friday Night is the official Launch of The Desert Festival. The night promises to be fun filled with laughter, mermaids would be used as the theme.
The Event falls on Saturday the 19th of August 2017
The Henley On Todd takes place every year on the third saturday of August so if you can’t make it this year you have another chance next Year.
