By December of that year, they had installed two solar panel systems for neighbors, and Energy By Choice was unofficially born. The company would incorporate the following summer. Since then they’ve grown at a breakneck pace and have not been content to simply install solar panels.
As the company grew, so too did the number and variety of installation projects. To give you a sense of this growth, that first year they installed three residential solar systems. In 2015, Energy By Choice installed a record breaking 48 residential solar systems as well as their largest commercial installation to date.

In 2008, Van Nostrand helped organize the Long Island Solar Energy Industries Association and served first as its Vice Chairman for two years then its chairman for three years. Also in 2008, Van Nostrand was elected to the NYSEIA (New York Solar Energy Industries Association) Board and served as the organization’s Vice President for four years and its President for another year.
These contributions are in addition to the countless hours Energy By Choice has spent educating the community about solar at libraries, rotaries, schools and even private home solar parties.
