Pune, India August 06, 2014: Pune based InnoServ Solutions Pvt. Ltd. released its pioneering initiative Adoption of Social Media in Academia survey report, ASMA-2014. ASMA-2014 unveils all the myths and depicts the role of social media in academic facets like admissions, placements, industry interface, academic excellence, branding, marketing, ROI and more. It establishes all the proficiency on social media marketing essential in crafting meticulous strategies to accomplish respective business objectives.
Speaking on the report Mr Rahul Jain, Director InnoServ Solutions Pvt. Ltd. said that ASMA is India’s first ever comprehensive study on adoption of social media in academia in collaboration with a team from IIM-Indore. Top institutes in India like the IIM-U, the IIM-K, SPJIMR, SIBM and over 60 B-Schools across India participated in the survey. ASMA-2014 is expected to contribute a great deal to comprehensions on social media in academia.
He added that team InnoServ worked and analysed on the concept of adoption of Social Media in academics and presented a questionnaire to the participating colleges. 89% of the colleges said that they had social media presence while 76% said that they have been using social media since two years. Yet around 63% of the colleges still don’t have any documented policies and guidelines for social media. Astonishingly social media analytics has not been paid attention while crafting strategies.
Around 83% showcase their success stories and events on various social media platforms for promoting and branding. Institute owned websites are still the most preferred platforms for exchanging information like admission, placement, campus life of students, events. However, a surprising 30% still haven’t integrated social media to their websites. Conversely the tech savvy institutes have taken it to a level ahead and used social media platforms for CSR activities, discussions and debating various issues related to business, collaborative learning, etc. Facebook (98%) invariably is the most preferred social network followed by LinkedIn (78%), Twitter (64%), YouTube (60%) and Google + (52%). It’s interesting to note that YouTube is being used to showcase different student activities, lectures, conferences, interviews and events efficiently than ever before.
ASMA-2014 unearths how Facebook and Skype are aiding institutes in internal academics, maintaining industry relations and placements. It also brings forth quite a few groundbreaking inclinations viz. 81% of the participating institutes currently use Facebook for alumni relations despite the notion of LinkedIn being the professional social network. 85% of the institutes believe the use social media to have enhanced their industry interface than traditional approaches.
