Seacoast Press publishes highly anticipated children’s book based on Lakota legend

Seacoast Press has published Grandfather Thunder and the Night Horses, written and illustrated by Christine Almstrom. When a young girl is frightened of a storm, her grandmother comforts her by telling the story of the Night Horses – a creature Grandfather Thunder made from his own heart to wake the earth and bring the rains to the people. Based on the Lakota legend of the Thunder Horse, “Grandfather Thunder & the Night Horses,” is translated through permission of the tribal elders of the Pine Ridge Reservation and the Thunder Valley Lakota Language Initiative in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

“I have always been fascinated by creation stories and beautifully-illustrated books for children. Grandfather Thunder & The Night Horses is my own contribution to those themes… Loosely-based on a Lakota legend, Grandfather Thunder is a creation story told to calm a child’s fear during a fierce storm,” said author Christine Almstrom.

Grandfather Thunder and the Night Horses is available in full-color hardcover from Seacoast Press/Mindstir Media online at Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and other fine retailers worldwide for $16.99. Wholesale orders can be placed through Ingram, Baker & Taylor.
