SAWCORP LAUNCHES FIRST PRACTICAL CWD BLOOD TEST FOR HARVESTED DEER AND ELK

Will allow hunters to submit blood samples for testing to insure their harvest is CWD-free

October 27, 2016 – Overland Park, KS – Sustainable Agriculture and Wildlife Corp, LLC (SAWCorp) is introducing the very first practical blood test for Chronic Wasting Disease in deer and elk.  This blood test allows hunters to collect a blood sample in the field, drop the envelope in the mail and have results in about ten days.  Blood collection kits and tests can be ordered online at www.sawcorp.com/harvest-tests.  The blood collection kits will also be available for purchase at selected outdoor retailers.

“This is an important day for hunters and for the hunting industry,” noted Dr. Rick Vierling, head of SAWCorp’s Science Advisory Board and also an avid hunter. “We finally have a way of stopping the spread of CWD and insure that our harvested deer and elk are CWD free.”  The blood test uses a patented technology originally developed and used to detect Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and Alzheimer’s in humans; it is able to identify infected animals before they start showing symptoms.  The test has been validated in numerous academic labs with 100% accuracy and specificity (identified all positive samples, had no false positives).  SAWCorp is in the process of working with the USDA to complete its validation review for use in the USDA CWD monitoring program.

The blood collection kits retail for $19.95 each and include everything necessary to collect and send blood samples for two harvested deer.

The tests are ordered separately, online at www.sawcorp.com/harvest-tests, and cost $45 per test.
