RUMORS SWARM: ‘BEVERLY HILLS, 90210’ TO GET FOLLOW-UP SERIES

The ‘90s generation finds excitement with the original series news and hope one day that the CW’s cast of ‘90210’ can reunite too.

Los Angeles, CA – March 20, 2018 –

The original 1990s ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ buzzing with rumor – to get a follow-up series.

Anyone from the ‘90s remembers Darren Starr’s iconic teen soap, Beverly Hills, 90210. The “gang” from West Beverly Hills High School deals with seriously intense drama – from family secrets to getting busted with spiked punch at prom – creating a “typical” life of California teenagers, where the drama never stops.

Deadline’s Patrick Hipes and Nellie Andreeva reported, possibly every ‘90s fans’ dream come true – a follow-up series of the original Beverly Hills, 90210

“The project, featuring the originals’ stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, is in very early stages of development at CBS TV Studios,” wrote Hipes and Andreeva, adding that the follow-up series will feature the original cast (Spelling, Garth, Jason Priestly, Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry).

While the ‘1990s cast is hopefully preparing for a long-overdo reunion in the rumored follow-up series, it was the CW’s “re-boot”, 90210 (2003 – 2008), “in which Spelling, Garth and Doherty reprised their roles during the first season,” that filled the years the original cast was absent, one teenagers enjoyed, and needed desperately.

For five seasons, thousands found themselves back at West Beverly Hills High, following theatre-geek and good-girl, ‘Annie Wilson’, (Shenae Grimes-Beech) and her family as they leave behind a life in the Midwest for one full of glitz and glamour in the iconic zip code of 90210.

As Kansas-girl Annie attempts to adjust to the culture shock Beverly Hills, she finds herself inside a glamorous world of privilege, where loyalties are questioned, and friendships are tested – all while the teens are only trying to navigate the halls of West Beverly.

As the 2000s lacked the original stars, the CW’s 90210 reboot was exactly what the generation needed – teenagers, who stripped to their core, are everyday, relatable kids simply trying to navigate and get by during the rough high school years.

“We don’t have shows targeted to teens that get honest about what it’s like to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder one day, when your mother’s alcoholic storm will be the next, and still being able to fall in love for the first time in the midst of all the drama,” wrote EW contributor, Reed Gaudens, adding, “Personally, it got me through high school and halfway through college.”

The rumor of the Beverly Hills, 90210 follow-up series have many hoping for a future where the CW’s 90210 Annie Wilson and the rest of her West-Bev gang re-unite for their own follow-up series.

Until then, or sooner when the new Beverly Hills, 90210 series is confirmed, our excitement has waves of nostalgia as many are beginning to indulge in films featuring both casts, like Jeff Kopas and Doug Taylor’s Canadian psychological thriller, ‘BLOOD HONEY’, featuring Grimes-Beech.

Grimes-Beech’s character, Jenibel Heath, returns to her family’s secluded lodge for the first time in 10 years to help her sister take care of their deathly ill father. The return home causes her repressed, traumatic memory of her mother’s suicide to re-enter her mind, as the demons from her childhood take over her life with hallucinations as she loses the ability to grasp reality.

“Blood Honey is a slow burn thriller told in a fever dream. Kopas, who co-wrote the film with Splice’s Doug Taylor, has cited Rosemary’s Baby and Vertigo as influences for this tension-building psychodrama, but there is also a strong echo of The Wicker Man (both the original and remake) with the film’s isolated location, odd characters and ties to a more sinister side of the natural world. With a cast boasting Don McKellar and Rosemary Dunsmore, as well as Grimes-Beech, Brown and Bellows, you’ll get your fill of solid Canadian talent. It was also nice to see diversity by the way of Krystal Hope Nausbaum, an actor with Down Syndrome, playing Jenibel’s sister Linda, but her character needed a touch more back story since she creates more questions than mystery,” wrote Cinema Axis.
