RIBA Venues – The Conference Landscape is Changing

Social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Periscope are changing the conference landscape.

The conference world is changing. People predicted that with advancements in technology would be the downfall of the traditional, face to face, conferences however they are more popular than ever as businesses are finding the personal touch invaluable as they seek to gain people’s trust and to build business relationships. Instead where technology has changed the conference landscape is with the introduction of social media.

Everything now has a hashtag such is the importance of social media. For those that do not already know, a hashtag is a method of categorising online posts such that others interested in the topic can read it easily. It allows you to search for what people are saying on a particular topic and engage with others.

By incorporating social media into a conference, businesses are able to expand the conversation outside of the venue walls. This changes an event of 500 to potentially thousand online as well. Companies benefit from the personal touch and are able to network and build business relationships but they are also able to reach a lot of people at relatively little cost and therefore create a lot of brand awareness.

Stephanie Ellrott form RIBA Venues, a large conference venue in London, said: Tthe conference landscape is evolving and technology is being utilised. Second screen technology is being used more and more at events to encourage delegates to share information online and therefore help to promote the event and the business talking. Here at RIBA Venues we make sure our rooms are modern and offer state of the art audio visual equipment along with a good Wi-Fi connection to enable our guests to get online quickly and easily.”
