RAID 6 Broken? DiskInternals Research Optimizes Multiply & Division Under AVX2.

New versions of DiskInternals RAID Recovery™ software recover files from corrupted or damaged RAID, 6 including on AVX2 (Haswell or later).

Today, DiskInternals Research has updated its line of disk recovery software, including RAID Recovery™. The highlight of this update is a new ability to work under AVX2 (Haswell or later).

Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX, also known as Sandy Bridge New Extensions) are extensions to the x86 instruction set architecture for microprocessors from Intel and AMD. This hardware was proposed by Intel in 2008 and first supported by Intel with the Sandy Bridge processor in 2011. AVX2 expands most of the integer commands to 256 bits and introduces fused multiply-accumulate (FMA) operations. Intel officially announced CPUs based on this microarchitecture at Computex Taipei 2013, while a working Haswell chip was demonstrated at the 2011 Intel Developer Forum. Haswell is the codename for a processor microarchitecture developed by Intel as the “fourth-generation core” successor to the Ivy Bridge microarchitecture. With Haswell, which uses a 22 nm processor, Intel also introduced low-power processors designed for convertible or “hybrid” ultrabooks, designated by the “Y” suffix.

DiskInternals Research has updated their products, making the question of how to undelete files stored on RAID 6 a thing of the past. Haswell CPUs are used in conjunction with the Intel 8 Series chipsets, Intel 9 Series chipsets, and Intel C220 series chipsets.

Key benefits for DiskInternals customers include:

  • Thanks to the new instructions, calculations of parities in RAID 6 perform 20% faster than before. Recovery time of complicated RAID 6 disks has decreased by 13%.

  • You can preview files before starting the recovery process.

  • The software is available for testing before purchasing.

The problems solved by DiskInternals products

To repair data from damaged or formatted VMFS disks, use VMFS Recovery™.It offers a safe, easy way to perform VMDK repair. Like any other storage media, VMware disks can be damaged by software and hardware defects. But with the DiskInternals tool, VMware recovery becomes a simple and automatic process. There is no reason to be afraid of data erasure or corruption.

To accomplish RAID data recovery regardless of the array type, RAID Recovery™ can help. This is the first tool to automatically detect the type of the original array. The drag-and-drop user interface makes performing RAID data recovery easy as undelete files are stored on a single hard disk. RAID Recovery™ recognizes all the configurations of an array type, including RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 1+0, 1E, RAID 4, RAID 5, 50, 5EE, 5R, RAID 6, 60 and JBOD. It doesn’t matter if they are connected to a RAID server, a dedicated RAID controller or a RAID-enabled motherboard from NVidia®, Intel®, or VIA®.

This tool also supports Apple®, Linux® (NAS), and Microsoft® software RAIDs (also called Dynamic Disks). All types can be recovered, including JBOD; RAID 0, 1, and 5 configurations; and QNAP RAID.

RAID Recovery™also works with Adaptec®, HP®, Dell®, MegaRaid®, Silicon® RAID Controllers and DDF-compatible devices. ZFS with RAIDZ are also supported. RAID Recovery™ works only under Windows, but restores RAID that is running Mac OS, Unix, etc.
