PROTECTING PETS FROM TICK BORNE DISEASE

According to Patra De Silva, President of NHV Natural Pet Products, makers of veterinarian-approved and formulated plant-based natural supplements, “The best defense against Lyme disease is prevention. Just as you would check yourself and your family after being outside in a wooded or grassy area, you should perform a ‘tick check’ on your dog daily. Be sure to examine hidden areas like between the toes and around the ears.”
During Lyme disease awareness month, it’s important to remember that your pets are also at risk. Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria transmitted by ticks. Dogs are especially susceptible because of the great amount of time spent outdoors.

If you find a tick on your dog, put on gloves and use a tweezer to remove it as close to the skin as possible, pulling it straight out and being careful not to squeeze the body of the insect.

In addition, natural insect repellents can help keep ticks off of your pets. NHV Target Spray contains a proprietary blend of herbal ingredients including lavender, neem, sweet scented marigold, Ceylon citronella oil, aloe vera and milk thistle, to repel insects and soothe skin, without the use of chemicals.

One of the key symptoms of Lyme disease is joint inflammation, but Lyme is often mistaken for arthritis or normal signs of aging.  If your dog has less energy than usual, or is limping, it’s important to have them tested to see if they have an active Lyme infection.  Delaying treatment of Lyme disease can lead to kidney problems and possible neurological complications.

Lyme disease is treated with antibiotics. To help ease the symptoms, NHV Yucca supplement soothes painful joints and decreases inflammation. “We also recommend a holistic regimen that includes an immune booster like NHV Natures Immuno and NHV Felimm to support against viral, bacterial and fungal infections to keep your pets active and healthy,” adds De Silva.

NHV NATURAL PET PRODUCTS provides veterinarian-formulated supplements derived from natural botanicals to support the health and well-being of pets including dogs, cats and small animals. In addition to the safe and effective manufacture of a full-line of Veterinarian-approved pet supplements that contain organically grown and ethically wild crafted herbs and botanicals, NHV also offers vet consultations to provide professional support and guidance for disease prevention and treatment for over 100 pet health conditions.
