“Power Semiconductor Market”
Global Power Semiconductors Market, by Material (Silicon carbide, GaN, Silicon), by Application (Industrial, Automotive, Aerospace, Military, Consumer electronics), by Component (Rectifier, Diode, Thyristor, Power MOSFET, Inverter) – Forecast 2023

Market Highlights

Power semiconductors are components used to convert energy from one form to another at various stages between the points of energy generation and energy consumption. A power semiconductor component can take the form of a discrete transistor, thyristor, or diode; or if a higher level of current or integration is required, the component can take the form of a multi-chip module, which contains more than one of these devices in a desired configuration or topology.

The competitive landscape of Global Power Semiconductors Market is formed by major players of the market and some of the new entrants. The power semiconductors are classified by type which includes thyristors, power MOSFET and rectifiers. A thyristor is a four-layer semiconductor device, consisting of alternating P type and N type materials (PNPN). A thyristor usually has three electrodes: an anode, a cathode, and a gate (control electrode). The most common use of thyristors is in AC circuits. In an AC circuit the forward current drops to zero during every cycle so there will always be a turn off function. Thyristors are also used in motor speed controls, light dimmers, pressure-control systems, and liquid-level regulators. Today, thyristors are manufactured and sold as modules right upto 570 Amps. MOSFET technology lends itself very well to power applications. With some adaptations, to the basic MOSFET format, power MOSFETs have been widely used. Power MOSFETs are widely used in power switching applications. A metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor is a field-effect transistor where the voltage determines the conductivity of the device. It is used for switching or amplifying signals. The low gate drive power needed, fast switching and low series resistance means that these devices are well suited to power switching applications. One key area of importance for any power MOSFET is the breakdown voltage. With these devices operating at might higher voltages that the more traditional small signal and logic FETs, maximum operating voltages are more of a key issue. A rectifier is an electrical device that converts an Alternating Current (AC) into a Direct Current (DC) by using one or more P-N junction diodes. Rectifiers are used as components of power supplies and as detectors of radio signals. Rectifiers may be made of solid state diodes, vacuum tube diodes, mercury arc valves, and other technologies.
