LONDON – MARCH 26, 2018 – One Dear World, a London-based family startup is pleased to announce that they have won the FSB award as the Family Business of the Year at the London final that took place at the Portman Hotel on March 19.
One Dear World is founded by a mixed-race couple in London. Founder Winnie is from Hong Kong and her husband Rafael is half French half Greek. They have a 3 years old son and Winnie got inspired to start the business during her maternity break when she could not find a nice black rag doll for her son in High Street toy stores.
They believe that all children, both boys, and girls, deserve a doll that represents them, to help them develop a secure self-image. They also think it is as important for children to have dolls that look different from them so that they can embrace diversity and learn to respect other cultures from a young age.
They have designed and produced a collection of multicultural dolls and have published a children’s storybook on London’s cultural diversity titled “London Hat Hunting Mission”. This storybook allows children of different cultural backgrounds to be represented and provides a good tool for parents and early years educators to introduce diversity to children.
It is because of the uniqueness of their product idea, dedication from the founding family and the way they make children see themselves as one that they were deemed fit to win the family business of the year award.
Winnie states, “Being a very young family business, my husband and I are thrilled to receive such recognition from FSB and I think it’s very encouraging to all those talented mums out there who have taken a break for their family and now seek to start their own businesses.“
