An Act of God, a comedy starring Sean Hayes, is scheduled to begin previews on May 28 and to open on June 6 at the Booth Theatre on Broadway. In the play, God and his angels answer some of humans’ most pressing questions and God attempts to clear up some misunderstandings. An Act of God was written by David Javerbaum, based on his book The Last Testament: A Memoir by God.
The play debuted on Broadway on May 7, 2015 and ran before sold-out audiences through August 2, 2015. The initial Broadway production starred Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory as God. It had a second successful run in Los Angeles, where Hayes first took the title role before being cast in the upcoming Broadway run.
Hayes has won praise from critics and fans throughout his career on stage and screen. He played Jack McFarland on the TV series Will & Grace, and earned a Tony Award nomination for his role in the 2010 Broadway revival of the musical Promises, Promises. He also received positive reviews for his performance in An Act of God in Los Angeles.
Javerbaum won 13 Emmys for his contributions as a head writer and producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. An Act of God is directed by two-time Tony winner Joe Mantello. The play includes scenic design by Tony winner Scott Pask, lighting design by Tony winner Hugh Vanstone, costume design by Tony Award nominee David Zinn, sound design by Drama Desk Award winner Fitz Patton, and projection design by Drama Desk Award winner Peter Nigrini.
