New research by the people meeting network Zorpia, has revealed that men in their mid to late 30s and above do actually prefer younger women as partners and women between the ages of 16-35 are considered to be in their prime.
Zorpia, a leading online people meeting network with over 30 million users, analysed over 50 million interactions* among its current user base to discover how age determines dating behaviour. The results are crystal clear; Men prefer younger partners, whilst women are as not concerned with age.
The results revealed that as soon men hit their 30s that they are willing to date women as young as 18 (12 years younger) but will only consider dating women up to 38 years old (8 years older), with 37 being the main age where men start to consciously choose women younger than them.
However, men younger in age are less restrictive in their age preferences and are happy to meet older women. Men between the ages of 16 to 20 were open to meeting women up to 29, whilst men in their early 20s show preference for someone as young as 16 would happily date women up to the age of 33.
Age was not such an important factor for women the results showed. Women between the ages of 16 to 19 were open to dating men aged up to 38, whilst women in their 50s will happily date someone between the 30s and their late 60s.
Jeffrey Ng, CEO and Founder of Zorpia, said: “The preference for older men preferring younger partners seems to be true according to our results. It appears that women between the 16-35 year age bracket seem to be considered in their prime, with more energy and zest for life by men.
“Although younger men appear to be more flexible with age, the women they are looking to date are still considered in the prime age bracket, so despite being older are still considered attractive. Their perceived energy and enthusiasm downplay the age difference – because of this it seems men are willing to overlook it.
“Men who are in their 30s and above still want women who are considered to be in this bracket. This may also be due to the need to be considered desirable because of reflected association. Choosing younger partners imply that, men despite their age still have what it takes to be attractive themselves.
“The fact women are open to different age groups perhaps allude to the fact they are more concerned with finding someone with common ground or other attributes other than age.”
