Oak Grove Middle School (JDUSD) Student Represents California at National Level for National History Day Competition County

Our very own Oak Grove Middle School student, Camden Shaw, was the California representative at the National History Day final competition at the University of Maryland, College Park! Camden first impressed judges by showcasing his project to the community at Oak Grove Middle School’s National History Day event. Each project presented was carefully analyzed and critiqued by a panel of judges, but Camden’s project came out on top!

Starting off as a small local competition in Ohio in 1974, National History Day (NHD) is now a nationwide competition where nearly 3,000 students with their families and teachers gather at the University of Maryland, College Park for the week-long event each year. For the competition, middle and high school students are able to do table top exhibits, documentaries, performance, website, or a research paper to exhibit their knowledge and take on the year’s theme. After spending months on preparing their projects and competing in local contests, these students are eager to show their hard work at the National Contest.

Camden Shaw went to the county NHD competition in April with his project on the Truman Order and won a spot in the NHD state competition in May, where he won and became the representative for California. Camden was excited and honored to represent Oak Grove Middle School, the Jamul Community, and the entire state of California in the  Nation Contest which is in the final stage of competition.
