The Norman Film Foundation, a non-profit organization with an objective to educate and provide exhibition opportunities for filmmakers in the area, is happy to announce the opening of their annual festival on Saturday, September 15th.
The Norman Film Fest is an annual event which brings the best of international, local, and regional films to Norman, with industry panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and tech demonstrations.
The Norman Film Fest has nine venues across a six-block area of Downtown Main Street, including feature film screenings at the historic Sooner Theatre, Opolis, Shevaun Williams & Associates, and the Studio of the Sooner Theatre, which will focus on family and Oklahoma-produced films.
The festival will screen 14 feature films during the all-day event, including the locally-made film “You People”, which chronicles the life of an intelligent, white-washed, African-American college student, adopted by a liberal Caucasian family, who has a crisis of identity while growing up in bible belt, white suburbia with his urban hip-hop culture obsessed, white best friend. Other features include the critically acclaimed Australian coming-of-age film Breath, which stars Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Cloverfield Paradox), and the abstract comedy White Rabbit featuring a stunning performance from asian-american performance artist Vivian Bang.
Mainsite Contemporary Art will serve as a hub for family activities, including a photo booth, animation classes, virtual reality demonstrations, and other film-related educational opportunities such as stop-motion animation, green screen video techniques, and virtual reality gaming. This will be presented by the Pioneer Library System.
Opolis will begin their programming at 4pm with a music video showcase, featuring the collaborative work of local and international bands and directors. Music related content continues at 5:15 with the documentary Masters of Resonance, about the design and construction of one of the world’s most epic drumkits for drummer Neil Peart to use during Rush’s farewell tour.
The event offers opportunities for filmmakers and film lovers to gather, discuss, and develop projects in a fun and comfortable atmosphere. A private VIP lounge with complimentary food and beverages is available to VIP pass holders, and a ticket-holder-only after party lounge at Shevaun Williams & Associates will close out the festivities.
VIP Passes, All-Day Passes, and single screening tickets are available at www.normanfilmfest.com and will also be available the day of the event at Mainsite, Opolis, Sooner Theatre, and Studio of the Sooner Theatre. Complimentary gift bags and lanyards will be provided at Mainsite from 12-8PM for pass holders.
