NIKOLAY LEBEDEV’S ACTION-PACKED FILM ‘THE CREW’ EXPLODES WITH FIREWORKS AFTER ITS RELEASE ON U.S. VOD PLATFORMS

“THE CREW // TRICOAST ENTERTAINMENT”
TriCoast Entertainment has released Lebedev’s Russian, all-out action disaster movie ‘THE CREW’ – now streaming on VOD platforms.

Los Angeles, CA – July 3, 2018 Directed by award winning and nominated writer-director, Nikolay Lebedev (‘The Star’, ‘Legend No. 17’), ‘THE CREW’ (originally titled Ekipazh) is a disaster-drama following a flight crew who risk their lives by their utilizing commercial planes to save those trapped by lava flows from an erupting volcanic island. Featuring an authentic Russian and award winning cast lead by Danila Kozlovsky (‘Vampire Academy, ‘Legend No. 17’) as the young pilot, Alexey Gushchin, alongside stars Vladimir Mashkov (‘Mission: Impossible’) and Lithuanian actress, Agne Grudyte (‘Nyukhach, Single Valentine’) as the members of the flight crew, ‘THE CREW’ is a contemporary remake of Alexander Mitta’s 1979 Russian film of the same name. Finally, TriCoast Entertainment has flown ‘THE CREW’ overseas for its U.S. multi-platform VOD release.

Synopsis:

A dramatic distress signal reaches the aircraft of pilot student Alexey during a flight. The cry for help comes from an island in the middle of the ocean. A volcano erupted there and the burning hot lava threatens to devour the entire island and its inhabitants. Alexey and his flight instructor Leonid are determined to help people, but the flight headquarters remains tough and prohibits this risky rescue maneuver. Not for the first time Alexey defies the instructions and the crew starts to land. Now he has to give everything to save lives. This mission will be a test for everyone as things get out of hand right after landing on the island (Film.TV).

Incredibly successful worldwide, ‘THE CREW’ grossed about $23 million in Russia alone, was Russia’s best-performing homegrown film of 2016, and has remained the third top-grossing movie in Russia overall. Since the U.S. release of ‘THE CREW’, the film’s commentary has exploded with fireworks of positive reviews. “For those brought up on the Airplane/Airport disaster movie subgenre, this extravagant non-stop thrill-a-minute adventure (from Russia, surprisingly) will come as a welcome addition to the grouping that once caught the fancy of every disaster flick aficionado,” wrote Thomas Johnson from Mid-Day.

Cinematically groundbreaking in Russia, ‘THE CREW’ is the second-ever Russian film shot using 3D IMAX cameras, creating elevated action sequences with spectacular VFX graphics and CGI effects. “Perfectly blended practical and CGI effects to create a visually stunning spectacle […with] cinematic brilliance. The budget was roughly $9M but it looks and feels like a movie five times bigger than the budget would suggest. The images just pop off the screen and the set pieces are blended with the action sequences are right up there with such movies as Deepwater Horizon, […as] everything feels seamless and deadly realistic. Hats off to all those involved in making the film look as vibrantly stunning as it does,” raved Back to the Movies

Filmink’s Justin Corbett agreed, as ‘THE CREW’ uses two planes, The Tupolev Tu-204SM (RA-64151 board) and decommissioned Tupolev Tu-154 of Kosmos Airlines (RA-85796 board), to elevate the disaster film, resulting in a thrill-of-a-lifetime. “Featuring truly tense action sequences and a seamless blend of practical and visual effects, the time spent with the flight crew pays off as they each step up when needed to get their passengers home safe, resulting in a surprisingly fun action blockbuster,” wrote Corbett.

More than a tale about responsibilities, self-sacrifice and bravery, ‘THE CREW’ shows the severe and unforeseen power of nature many worldwide have unfortunately experienced and evokes the message of a coming together in a time of tragedy by forgetting their differences to support each other and to survive. “A captivating story of courage, friendship and the desire to preserve the human in the fight against nature,” noted Film.TV.

‘THE CREW’ also featuring a fantastic supporting cast including Sergey Gazarov (‘Revizor’, ‘12’), Katerina Shiptsa (‘Metro’, ‘Project’, ‘Gemini’), Sergey Shakurov (‘Brezhnev’, ‘Velikaya’) and Sergey Romanovich (‘Pitch’).
