April 3, 2017 – Qoach (http://qoach.co) is a new startup focusing on providing free online sports courses to help impoverished athletes or sports fans to learn and train in 27 different sports. It offers over 260 free sports courses containing 4,000 online videos for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
CNN reported about an athlete named Julius Yego, who came from Kenya and wanted to learn the sport of javelin but he couldn’t find a coach to train him because he didn’t have the money. So, he turned to YouTube in cyber cafes and learned javelin by watching videos of professional javelin throwers like Jans Zelezny. Remarkably, today Julius Yego is the reigning world champion and 2016 Olympic silver medallist. Qoach was highly inspired by Yego’s astonishing feat and is now on a mission to discover more champions who embrace online sports training.
With 4,000 specially curated videos, each free course on Qoach.co website has an average of 15 online video lessons that train athletes on specific skills, techniques and tactics on a particular sport, from football to eSports. The lessons are arranged in sequential order from top to bottom just like how any coach would train an athlete. Course participants would only need to follow the step-by-step instructions laid out by the coaches such as from how to grip a sport equipment and how to stand, to how to execute a complex maneuver. Some of the esteemed coaches are from IMG Academy, Speedo International and include bowling coach Randy Petersen (winner of 13 PBA titles and PBA Hall of Famer), cricket coach Zubin Bharucha (former first-class cricketer former team director of Rajasthan Royals), golf trainer Adam Bazalgette (two time PGA Teacher of the Year winner), yoga master Adriene Mishler (who is also a Hollywood actor).
According to data from Wikipedia, in the past 20 years, the Summer Olympics top 10 medal table was dominated by only 14 countries where nine countries were regulars. These nine top-performers were from affluent countries such as USA, Great Britain, Russia, Japan and western European countries. Almost half of the total gold medals (2,513 out of 5,105 or 49%) at the Summer Olympics were won by only seven countries since 1896 – USA, Soviet Union, Great Britain, China, France, Italy and Germany. These great disparities in sports excellence between countries are significantly caused by lack of economic means among lesser countries.
