New Release Offers Hope and Help for Teen Mothers

Teenage mothers are less likely to finish high school and are more likely to live in poverty, depend on public assistance, and be in poor health than slightly older mothers, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Their children are more likely to suffer health and cognitive disadvantages, come in contact with the child welfare and correctional systems, live in poverty, drop out of high school, and become teen parents themselves.

A new release, Starting Point: Journeys of Teen Moms Who Overcame by Tiffany Stadler (Redemption Press, March 2017) shares the true-life accounts of sixteen young teen mothers, highlighting the difficult journey of each. The stories take the reader from childhoods to positive pregnancy tests, through the decisions and life-altering events that follow. Each account shares how the love of God radically changed each young woman’s life. Starting Point is written for soon-to-be teen moms and teen moms, as well as the educators, church leaders, parents, and friends who want to understand what they are experiencing.

Stadler, a mother of four children and wife to a Portland fireman, shares her own story of being a teen mom and the struggles she faced. She says, “I have a huge heart for teen moms because I walked that difficult journey over sixteen years ago when I found out I was pregnant with twin girls.” She adds, “As soon as I began to write my story, God placed other women along my path who were also willing to share in hopes their story could impact the life of someone else. This book not only healed broken places in the hearts of the women who shared their stories, but will also bring hope to teen moms, and understanding to those who work with them. Starting Point helps teen moms understand that a positive pregnancy test is not the end of the world, but a new beginning. There is still hope for a positive future.”
