New comic depicts newest zombie apocalypse story

Eddie Avila of Manorville New York is seeking $5,000 in pledges by Oct. 28 2016 to finance the first publication issue of his new comic book, “Day One.” With 25 days to go, 31 backers have promised $2,047 in his Kickstarter.com campaign.

“This project is being published by Velocity Comics, a new publisher looking for the most exclusive, high quality products to deliver to you,” Avila stated. “We are excited to collaborate with … CL Visual, and color artist Jorge Cortes and appreciate your support in bringing this story to life.”

The Kickstarter.com pledge campaign has nine levels of pledges with rewards, ranging from $3 to $5,000. Rewards will include a PDF copy of the first issue of the series at the lowest level. The highest level will allow the donor to have a short character role in a future issue of the series. Other rewards feature copies of some of the original artwork and “Day One” t-shirts.

“In order to minimize risks and challenges that we may face when publishing, we have started our own publishing company, Velocity comics,” Avila stated. “We have also trademarked and copyright all material. This process started three years ago and we felt that tackling these hurdles prior to launching on Kickstarter would give us the most efficient outcome. However, this will be our first time ever printing a comic that brings some possible issues in itself.”

Avila has a BA in Illustration from Parson’s school of design. He said he has had a love for comics and art for many years.

“I started writing, and with much encouragement from my family and friends started to actually put together a comic,” Avila stated. “I am both excited, and determined to see ‘Day One’ come to life. Our goal is to bring the highest end, exclusive, quality work to all our pledges and potential fans and we will work tirelessly to do so. “Day One chronicles an apocalyptic event that tears the world apart,” Avila said.  “We take this journey with Pik Samson, a pharmaceutical rep living a normal suburban life with his expecting wife and son, who loses everything on day one.”
