Directed and written by Timothy Hines, 10 Days In A Madhouse is based on the incredible true story of Nellie Bly, the world’s first undercover journalist. In 1887 at the young age of 23, Bly made international headlines after she bravely feigned insanity in order to get herself arrested and committed to a mental institution on what is now Roosevelt Island in New York City. She exposed the truth of what was happening behind locked doors – that women were being mistreated and abused.
The film is based on Nellie Bly’s exposé of the same title. Director Timothy Hines does a great job in portraying the book’s emotionally disturbing content. Bust Magazine, a popular publication for smart, young women that discusses feminist issues, agrees. 10 Days In A Madhouse “Director Timothy Hines’ modern biopic of the same name stars Caroline Barry as Bly, and captures the journalist’s time on the island in a visceral new way. Not for the faint of heart, 10 Days doesn’t spare you a single moment of Bly’s suffering… [Her] story is too important not to revisit. 10 Days demands to be watched,” says Bust.
The film stars newcomer Caroline Barry as Nellie Bly, who was plucked from a casting of over 8,000 women across the world. She has been steadily gaining buzz in the media for her powerful portrayal of the legendary reporter. Veteran actors Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Mortal Kombat) and Kelly Le Brock (Weird Science) also star. The film is now playing in theaters across the US.
