Mountain Empire High School Students Can Earn Credit for Cuyamaca College

Starting in the new school year, students attending Mountain Empire High School will have the chance to earn college credit at Cuyamaca College through the “Tech Prep” Program. The program is designed to transition the things students learn at school into applicable skills in the workforce. Tech Prep is important because it helps students by saving them effort, money, and time.

The program saves effort because students don’t need to leave MEHS campus to receive this college credit- the courses are taught by their very own teachers. Tech Prep saves money because the Credit-By-Exam courses count towards a high school diploma and a degree or certificate at Grossmont and Cuyamaca, and sometimes even a California State University! The best part is, students also save time by getting a head start on college requirements.

In order to earn credit through Tech Prep, Mountain Empire students will enroll in classes approved by the program at MEHS, also called a Credit-By-Exam course, complete the Cuyamaca College application (no fees or tution required), and complete the course with a “B” grade or better. Students are responsible for submitting their credit to Cuyamaca College’s Admissions and Records office.

With the gap between skills needed in the workforce and skills available widening, it is more important now than ever for students to be college-ready and get applicable experience with learning they will use in the future job market. Tech Prep through Cuyamaca College is a great way for students to kickstart their college career and earn up to 12 units of college credit while still in high school.
