Measure P Funds Modernize and Expand GGUSD Schools

In 2016, Measure P was on the Orange County ballot for residents in the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) boundaries. The bond measure won overwhelming support from the GGUSD community with a 76.3% approval vote.

The $311 million bond is being used to fund air conditioning, brand new state of the art athletic stadiums, seismic safety improvements, technology upgrades and classroom modernization.

The success of these projects is already supporting the goal of Measure P – to support 21st century learning.

When Measure P passed, 24 of GGUSD’s 67 school sites did not have updated air conditioning.  By 2020, all GGUSD schools will have air conditioning to provide students with a comfortable learning environment.  Thanks to Measure P, the district’s Don Wash Auditorium at Garden Grove High School was also completely updated and remodeled, providing a wonderful environment for performances and district events.

Measure P helped fund the new state-of-the-art Michael A. Monsoor Memorial Stadium at Garden Grove High School. It holds special significance to the community, bearing the name of  fallen war hero and Garden Grove High School graduate, Navy SEAL Michael A. Monsoor. The Michael A. Monsoor Memorial Stadium honors the former student and football player who exemplified valor as he dove on a live grenade in Iraq in 2006 to save other members of his unit. A similar state-of-the-art stadium is already being built at Bolsa Grande High School! Other athletic improvements include new gym floors at Santiago and Rancho Alamitos High Schools.

Both La Quinta High School and Pacifica high schools are undergoing a major seismic renovation project, including classroom building replacements, a new cafeteria, media center, and auditorium.

The benefits of Measure P will be felt by generations of students to come and will enrich the learning experience for tens of thousands of GGUSD students.
