PIERMONT, NY – December 14, 2015 – According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately 1 in 25 adults (10 million people) in the US experience serious mental illness that hinders their life and this number continues to grow. Lisa Forman is one of them. Since the age of 17, she has battled bipolar disorder. In her life, she has made three suicide attempts. Forman dealt with ineffective and debilitating medication, countless western medical psychiatrists who did nothing but write more prescriptions for her. Depression also took her 22-year old son’s life when he committed suicide in 1999.
The lack of concrete research and effective treatment to help people with mental illnesses, which prompted her to search for new ways to address mental illness in her memoir On the Sunny Side of the Street. Lisa compiled years of research on how to treat this disease effectively. The book aims to educate parents and adolescents who have been affected by depression and bipolar disorder, with her new approach on healing. But, a project this large needs assistance. Lisa cannot do it alone. She has turned to the Kickstarter community to fund her book project. The campaign goal is to raise $25,000 by January 9th, 2015.
