Linbeck Group Wins Houston Business Journal Landmark Awards for Top Commercial Real Estate Projects

Houston, TX (March 9, 2017) —Linbeck Group is pleased to announce three of its projects earned 2017 Landmark Awards from the Houston Business Journal. The Texas-based, technology-driven building construction firm’s winning projects are high-profile new construction and renovation projects.  The HBJ Landmark awards recognize projects that encompass long-term viability and make a significant impact on Houston’s landscape.

The Sunset Coffee Building received the top award in the Historic Renovation category; Smart Financial Centre is a winner in Hospitality; and JLABS@TMC won in the Medical category. A fourth Linbeck project, the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center, was a finalist in the Historic Renovation category.

The Winning Projects

Sunset Coffee Building: Winner in Historic Renovation

Linbeck Group converted the 106-year-old deserted coffee roasting building into a recreational and cultural center, helping bring Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s vision to life. Linbeck renovated 12,700 square feet of the abandoned facility to include a rooftop terrace for events, an outdoor plaza, a canoe, kayak and bike rental facility, café and office space for Buffalo Bayou Partnership.

Smart Financial Centre: Winner in Hospitality

Smart Financial Centre is an $84 million state-of-the-art performance hall built on 38 acres of land owned by the city of Sugar Land. One unique feature of the facility – movable auditorium walls that change seating capacity from 3,000 seats to 6,400 without sacrificing acoustical performance. The venue also features the latest sound, light and video technology to accommodate complex presentations prevalent in the entertainment industry.

JLABS@TMC: Winner in Medical

JLABS@TMC is a Johnson & Johnson incubator lab housed within the Texas Medical Center’s Innovation Institute. The network of life science incubators provide emerging companies many of the advantages of being in a big company, without the capital investment. Located within the TMC and valued at more than $11.5 million, the 34,000-square-foot project includes enhanced infrastructure to support multiple common spaces, private labs, shared labs, workstations, offices, and conference rooms. The project also included a technological hub housed in a highly finished structured pod that serves as the central communication portal between the scientist entrepreneurs and Johnson & Johnson locations around the globe.

Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center: Finalist in Historic Renovation

Originally built in the early 1900’s as a sugar-packaging warehouse, the 12,000-square-foot Children’s Discovery Center was constructed while preserving as much of the existing interior and exterior elements as possible.

“All of us at Linbeck are honored to be recognized by the Houston Business Journal with the Landmark Awards,” said (David Stueckler, President and CEO), Linbeck Group. “These awards highlight the fantastic work undertaken by our entire team on behalf of our clients.”

A panel of outside industry judges evaluated each nomination based on its impact to Houston, looking at factors such as job creation, innovation, best use of land, site planning, neighborhood development, visual plan, amenities and environmentally friendliness.
