Houston, TX – August 24, 2017 – Linbeck Group, a Texas-based, technology-driven building construction firm, announced that the James Turrell art installation at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) has been honored with an Award of Merit – Cultural / Worship Category in the ENR New England’s 2017 Best Projects competition.
American artist James Turrell created a thought-provoking contemporary work of art titled “Into the Light”, designed to elevate visitors’ experiences and perceptions of light and space. Linbeck installed nine large and complicated exhibits, which will remain on long-term view at the museum.
The MASS MoCA exhibit is not Linbeck’s first Turrell installation. The company also installed the “Twilight Epiphany” Skyspace at Rice University for which it won an ENR Texas & Louisiana award and an IDEAS2 National Merit Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction in 2013.
ENR’s annual awards program is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Independent juries of industry leaders in design and construction judged the project entries using five criteria, including safety, innovation and teamwork.
The winners of the ENR New England’s 2017 Best Projects will be profiled in depth in the December 25 print issue of ENR New England, and will be recognized at an awards presentation to be held December 12 in Boston.
