Laughing Buddha Games was founded as an experiment when the founders saw a call for submissions from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to raise awareness of global issues and ways to impact them. They submitted a game concept to the contest and got surprised by the great reaction they received. They reached out to Heifer International to inquire about leveraging their existing case studies into gamified stories that could potentially teach about social-emotional skills, while raising awareness about global issues with demonstrated ways to make a positive impact, and they agreed.
The founders went on to develop a few game prototypes of the project they named ‘Annapurna’ with the Heifer International team and started reaching out to potential partnerships for funding the project. They had to struggle a lot initially but continued to thrive and built a simple game as a proof of concept. The first original game, named StarSmasher received great response from the friends and family and also led to a nomination at the Indie Showcase at Casual Connect Asia 2013 and the game was showcased on Singapore’s Gamebox website.
After the release of their first complete game to the Appstore and Google Play, they gained the confidence to move further and established the brand Laughing Buddha Games. At present, the brand has been featured in App Store seven times and on Google Play, Star Smasher has received great reviews from the users.
