Just weeks after its maritime Poker Fun Run, Lake Wylie Children’s Charity is already plotting its next big fundraiser—another Poker Fun Run, but this time borne on bikes instead of boats. The Poker Fun Run will be held on Saturday, September 12, starting at 11:00 a.m. and lasting throughout the afternoon. The rain date is Saturday, September 19.
The Poker Fun Run will involve motorcycle rides to a series of predetermined “checkpoints,” at which each rider will be given a playing card. When each checkpoint has been hit, the players will have complete hands, and the best poker hand will be declared the winner. The winner will be given a $400 prize; the worst hand will take home $100.
“Something we are passionate about is the concept of having fun for a great cause,” comments Jennifer Joye, Executive Director for Lake Wylie Children’s Charity. “We’re pulling out all the stops so that people can enjoy this event and help local children and their families in the process.”
This year’s event will feature local barbecue and live DJ sets from country radio favorites Big Sexy and DJ Peanut. Celebrity guests include NASCAR crew chiefs Buddy Parrot and Tony “Rambo” Libertati. The Fun Run will begin in the Lake Wylie area at Sweetwater Tavern and conclude at T-Bone’s. Sponsors this year are Charlotte Harley Davidson and Cox Harley Davidson.
Lake Wylie Children’s Charity raises funds on behalf of area families whose children have been diagnosed with serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. The funds raised help these families grapple with day-to-day living expenses, to say nothing of medical bills. “Once again we can make a difference in the lives of families going through crisis,” Joye said.
