Khione Outdoor Gear Seeks Funding On Kickstarter For Their Hammock Project, SHEL

Casey Messick and Caleb Lystrup announce campaign on Kickstarter for funding SHEL, the Ultra-light Hammock Shelter.

Casey Messick and Caleb Lystrup, two engineering students with an entrepreneurial streak, have announced that they are using the Kickstarter platform to try and fund their SHEL project. SHEL is an innovative and ultra-light hammock shelter that goes beyond the conventional hammock to provide additional protection and keeps users comfortable in any weather condition. Khione Outdoor Gear is the first venture of this engineering duo.

“The idea of SHEL started from a personal experience during a hammock camping in 2016 when I discovered several drawbacks of the traditional hammocks that are commonly used,” says Celeb. “With Casey, I have worked on numerous prototypes and tested designs with customers to hone and create a hammock design that won us the BYU’s Student Innovator of the Year Award in 2017. We have put together a team of students with expertise in various aspects of business and with a love for adventure to make sure our SHEL project is a success.”

Most hammocks can freeze the backside at night but SHEL won’t. The all-in-one shelter does away with the need for a bug net, tarp, under quilt and even a sleeping bag. The whole arrangement is designed for easy set up.

SHEL weighs less than 30 OZ making it easy to carry the hammock anywhere, literally. It can keep users warm in the snow, dry in the rain and protected from mosquitoes. At 10′ 6″ long and 6′ 3″ wide, SHEL offers the best possible outdoor sleeping comfort and security. The Advanced 210T Nylon is rapid drying, UV resistant, and mildew resistant. It provides a tough, flexible, support while maintaining ultra-light status for serious backpackers.

The roomy SHEL comes with double hammock dimensions that make it easy for users to enjoy a comfortable night sleep. The superior tree straps and carabiner is way ahead of the cheap Para chord or braided nylon generally used in hammocks. The lightweight rust-proof wire-gate carabiners are four times stronger than traditional carabiners.

The SHEL is the only hammock insulator of its kind. It works differently as conventional warming techniques are replaced by unique geometry designs that trap a layer of thin air between the user and the hammock to provide additional warmth. The inside of SHEL is lined with IR reflective material that bounces the body heat back to the user.

The Advanced Triple Stitched Hammock Straps ensure easy setup, adjustment, and storage. At Khione Outdoor Gear, every hammock is hand-inspected for blemishes in the nylon-triple stitching to make sure the product they deliver to the market is flawless in every quality and performance aspect. The tension line is made of 1 inch webbing and is hence very strong. The easy to set up SHEL allows users to adjust the tension line for additional thickness and more warmth when needed.

The campaign on Kickstarter is attempting to raise $15,000 within the deadline of 22 September, 2017.
