IUOC Achieve Historic Breakthrough in Heat-not-burn Technology Field

This year, finally had the product which truly achieve traditional cigarettes heat not burn with good taste. IUOC, which means I use ordinary cigarettes, was a heat not burn smoking device launched by Shenzhen Yukan Technology Co., Ltd. The feature is that it does not need special tobacco stick and any additive.

Heat-not-burn was recognized as a healthy smoking way internationally. It heated the cigarettes to produce fragrance but not burned them. Normally, the cigarette will produces harmful substances at 500℃ to 900℃ when light it. But heat-not-burn technology can control the temperature and greatly reduce harmful substances.

The world’s first heat-not-burn tobacco product Premier, which developed by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, was released in the United States in 1988. Premier was a smokeless cigarette. Its tobacco contained more than 50 percent glycerin to create an aerosol of nicotine. Because the complicated operation and bad taste, it never achieved popularity. It looked like a conventional cigarette and worked by heating and aerosolizing tobacco flavor. It was withdrawn from the market in 1989. R.J. Reynolds reintroduced the concept behind the Premier cigarette as the Eclipse brand in the 1990s.

Philip Morris International (PMI) launched a cigarette in 1998 that was placed into an electronic heating device as Accord. The battery-powered product was the size of a pager. Accord was a handheld device. Just put the customized tobacco stick into to device to use it. There was a sensor in the device and it lighted the cigarette once for one puff smoke.

The introduction of iQOS (I-Quit-Ordinary-Smoking) was announced on June 26, 2014. Initially launched in 2014 in Nagoya, Japan and Milan, Italy, iQOS is being gradually rolled out to other countries. By end of 2016 it was available in over 20 countries. IQOS contained two parts, charger and holder. It used special tobacco stick of Marlboro and Parliament brands.

The disposable tobacco stick that has been dipped in propylene glycol, was inserted into the holder which then heats it at low temperatures to create an aerosol of nicotine. The customized tobacco stick was regulated by China Tobacco, so IQOS has not entered Chinese market yet officially.

Through invention patent technology, the tobacco temperature can reached 395℃ and produced mellow taste. While the cigarettes will produce harmful substances at 500℃ to 900℃, it will not produce tar and solid harmful substances with IUOC. It is said that IUOC will begin to be sold in the third quarter.
