Hytrol supplied sliding shoe sorter conveyors for Dollar Shave Club, a company specializing in grooming and personal care products, as it expands as an e-commerce company. The Hytrol conveyors transport cartons and envelopes from both the main packing area and the pick-to-light packing stations. The cartons are sorted to 36 destination bins based on zip code. Hytrol also employed routing software from Creative Logistics Solutions. Hytrol was featured as part of Dollar Shave Club’s successes in a recent article published by DC Velocity.
Hytrol’s heavy duty sliding shoe sorter is designed for high speed applications where product diverting needs to be both positive and gentle. Products are transported on anodized aluminum slats where at a predetermined location, divert shoes move diagonally across the conveyor to push the product onto a take-away conveyor.
According to the article, Dollar Shave Club enjoys one huge advantage over most e-tailers in that it handles only a small number of SKUs (stock-keeping units). This was a strategic decision arrived at early on. While many online companies compete by offering a vast selection of products, Dollar Shave Club has chosen a different route: selling a limited number of quality products.
