UK/3/12/16 – Much has been said and written about the importance of following a strict dress code in UK public schools. The practice, aimed to act as a deterrent against bullying and harassment, has contributed to staving off these phenomena, up to a certain extent, in schools around the nation.
However, no clear regulations have been laid out about the expected hair lengths pupils must have. Particularly in the case of boys, pupils sporting long hair, or a different hairstyle than the run-of-the-mill crew cut, have been a target of discrimination.
Often subjected to the cruel whims of power-abusing headmasters, young lads are being singled out among their peers due to something as innocuous as their hairstyle – and even receive some form of severe punishment, which would otherwise be reserved for delinquent pupils.
Furthermore, there have been documented instances, wherein pupils where outright instructed to chop off their luscious locks, in order to comply with the archaic school rules governing boys’ appearance.
It is time that change be brought in how young boys are treated over their girl schoolmates, in terms of the ability to wear their hair the way they choose to.
In this day and age, this pressing subject is far more than a daily disturbance in these pupils’ lives – it is a veritable human rights issue.
Boys must have the freedom to choose what to do with their hair, and enjoy the same hairstyle privileges that their girl peers do.
For this reason, a crowdfunding campaign has been set up, in order to highlight the importance of the issue in the UK society and schools.
All the funds collected through the campaign will be used towards authoring books on the matter and posting billboards in select areas, to raise awareness about this unfair and utterly devastating phenomenon.
