Global Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Market insights by 2022 profiling AT&T, MetroPCS/T-Mobile USA, SK Telecom, NTT Docomo, SingTel, Ericsson, Huawei, NSN, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia

This research profiles: AT&T, MetroPCS/T-Mobile USA, SK Telecom, NTT Docomo, SingTel, Ericsson, Huawei, NSN, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia. Market segment by Type, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) can be split into: Voice Over IP Multimedia Subsystem (VoIMS), Circuit Switched Fall Back (CSFB), Dual Radio/Simultaneous Voice and LTE (SVLTE), Voice Over LTE Via Generic Access Network (VOLGA), Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC)

Voice Over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) is a digital voice packet service delivered via Internet Protocol (IP) through LTE access. Technology also empowers network operators to provide rich video and voice calling services. It allows operators to optimize spectrum efficiency and use their IMS infrastructure to value their existing designs.

It allows telecom operators to offer new standards based on various services such as Rich Communication Services (RCS). Includes voicemail, video, instant messaging, real-time language translation, and video calls. RCS reduces the time to connect VoLTE calls and improves the battery life of the device in relation to other applications.

An increase in demand for richer and more reliable voice services is expected to lead to the VoLTE market. Increased spectrum performance is expected to support industry demand from 2017 to 2025. Reduced SMS revenues and traditional voice calls due to cheaper Internet packages and new emerging technologies have led to the demand for VoLTE services in recent years. The increased development of LTE networks and access to high-speed packets (HSPAs) have attracted a variety of telecom operators to enter this industry.

The necessity of the receiver and transmitter (communication devices) supporting VoLTE technology, high pricing structure and limited 4G coverage are expected to limit industry growth relative to the forecasting schedule. As voice calls, web browsing, and video streaming will be reviewed based on the same data plan, customers will eventually consume more data that ends up paying high for data charges.

However, rising competition among telecom operators to acquire 4G space, the growing adoption of VoLTE-supported devices and stabilized prices are expected to affect market dynamics over the forecasting timeframe. For example, in June 2017, Sprint announced an unlimited data plan for a year in the US for customers coming from AT & T, Verizon or T-Mobile. Earlier this year, major US mobile operators have launched unlimited data plans, with Sprint launching this plan as a strategy to target the largest subscribers to their network.

Key stakeholders in the industry are AT & T Inc., Verizon Wireless, Mitel Networks Corporation, Ericsson, LG Uplus and Alcatel-Lucent. Mergers and acquisitions are the key competitive strategies adopted by industry players. For example, in February 2016, Mitel Corporation has developed voice and video via LTE in Indonesia through the Smartfren telecom operator. Indonesia is the fifth country in which Mitel introduced VoLTE services after North America and Europe through cooperation with T-Mobile telecom operators in the US and 3UK in Europe.

In March 2015, Nokia Networks implemented the first VoLTE application in Colombia and Latin America. In Colombia, Avantel opted for Nokia to develop VoLTE services by initiating the LTE small cell networks in the country. AT & T also focuses on expanding VoLTE roaming coverage in the Asia-Pacific region. For example, in February 2017, he launched VoLTE services in Hong Kong and South Korea. The company has been offering these services in cooperation with Telecoms Telecoms in South Korea and SmarTone and CSL in Hong Kong. It has also launched VoLTE services through collaboration with NTT Docomo in Japan and focuses on working with additional service providers.
