Despite a rather deep plunge in exports in 2014, Japan remained the leader in the global tyre for agriculture trade. In 2014, Japan exported 1.3 million units of tyres for agriculture totaling 2 billion USD, 21% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 15.3% of its total tyre exports in value terms, accounting for 14.8% of the United States’ total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, Japan was a net exporter of tyres for agriculture. Over the period under review, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced due to high export prices.
China and India were among the other main global suppliers of tyres for agriculture in 2014. The fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 was also India (+24.8% per year). By virtue of this meteoric rise, India significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.
In 2014, Japan’s top 5 trading partners were the U.S., Australia, the Russian Federation, Indonesia and Chile with a combined share 58.9% of Japan’s exports. The share of the Russian Federation increased significantly (+6 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-6 percentage points).
