Its primary trading partner was Germany, where it supplied 21% of its total paper and paperboard exports in value terms, accounting for 29% of Germany’s total imports.
Overall, the global paper and paperboard trade dropped to 32,632 million USD, with a CAGR of -1% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it decreased from 37,795 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 34,033 thousand tonnes in 2014.
In 2014, Germany (12%), the U.S. (7%), the United Kingdom (7%), France (6%) and China (4%) were the leading destinations of paper and paperboard imports, together making up 36% of global imports. The share of China increased (+1 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-3 percentage points).
Germany and China were among the other main global suppliers of paper and paperboard in 2014 with a combined share of 24% of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+11% per year) and the Republic of Korea (+3% per year). China strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 5% in 2007 to 10% in 2014.
